The Bulletproof Automation Builder Pathway
One standard. Two ways in.
The subject of this pathway is automation engineering. n8n is the platform competence is currently demonstrated on, not the thing being certified — a distinction that protects the credential if the tooling landscape shifts.
A certificate and a certification are not the same thing
Most training blurs these. This pathway keeps them apart on purpose, because they make different promises to an employer.

Training and certification are separate products
Completing a cohort does not confer a certification. It qualifies you to attempt the assessment. No payment awards a credential here — it is earned by passing.

Bulletproof Automation Foundations Certificate
Certificate of completion · free · eight weeks
You learn to build a workflow from trigger to output, read the data moving through it, connect a real application, handle a failure, and explain what you made. Every class leaves you an artifact.

Stage 2
Bulletproof Certified Automation Builder
Professional certification · assessed · can be not-yet-passed
The holder can take a moderately complex requirement and design, build, integrate, harden, document and maintain a solution — and can diagnose a system they did not build. Seven competency domains, four assessed components.
It does not attest to competence in scaling, infrastructure administration, deployment pipelines or enterprise security architecture. Those are Stage 3.

Bulletproof Certified Automation Engineer

Reserved scope: architecture, databases, advanced integrations, security, secrets management, environments, deployment, version control, CI/CD, queue-based processing, scaling, concurrency, observability, recovery, operational ownership, AI governance, human approvals, permissions, production documentation, and system lifecycle management.
At this level the platform is the implementation detail, not the subject. There is no date, no signup and no list to join. It is named here so the pathway has a visible ceiling — issuing it before its standard exists would devalue the two below it.
Two ways in
The training route and the experience route reach the same assessment and the same standard. Neither is a lesser version of the other.

You are not required to purchase the training. The readiness review establishes that an attempt is realistic; it is advisory, not a gate, and its fee is credited against the assessment fee.

BCAB assessment → Certified
Path B is essential to the credential’s independence and is maintained even when it is commercially inconvenient. A certification only its own students can hold is a diploma, not a standard.
The standard is published
Every weight, every threshold and every rule the assessment applies is written down and readable before you sit anything. Seven competency domains, four components, a 75% overall threshold with non-compensatory minimums on the two hands-on parts.
Thresholds for the first cycle are provisional and will be confirmed after calibration against cohort one. We say so rather than imply a rigour we have not yet earned.

- Not a shortcut. There is no way to skip Stage 1 and hold its certificate, and no way to buy the Stage 2 credential.
- Not a job guarantee. BCAB is a minimum standard for automation roles at Bulletproof Automations. Holding it does not constitute an application, offer, or guarantee of employment.
- Not an n8n qualification. Bulletproof Automations is an independent provider. Holders are supplied with a permitted description of their credential and may not describe it as an n8n certification.
- Not finished. Stage 3 is defined and not issued. Thresholds are provisional. Both are stated rather than hidden.
